BERNICE SUMMERFIELD
Professor Bernice ‘Benny’ Summerfield is a 27th-century archeologist, diarist, adventurer, space-traveller, mother and dipsomaniac originally invented by science-fiction author Paul Cornell. She stars in a series of novels, novellas, audio dramas and short stories, published originally by Virgin and latterly by Big Finish.
I’ve been a fan of Benny since her first appearance in 1992. Recently I’ve been privileged to contribute to her ongoing saga in two short-story anthologies and two longer works.
- The Vampire Curse, a collection of three novellas – my ‘Predating the Predators’ and others by Mags L. Halliday and Kelly Hale.
- Nobody’s Children, a collection of three novellas – my ‘Nursery Politics’ and others by Kate Orman and Jonathan Blum.
- Collected Works, a short-story anthology structured partly around a storyline I contributed. The book contains five short pieces by me around the theme of ‘Perspectives’, and a final story, ‘Future Relations’, which I co-authored with the anthology’s editor, Nick Wallace.
- A Life Worth Living, a short-story anthology edited by Simon Guerrier, which includes my story ‘Sex Secrets of the Robot Replicants’.
As an additional extra, my rejected short story pitches for another Benny anthology, Something Changed, are available.
